El Salvador: Plans to Increase Hotel Supply

19 Apr 2017

The union of hotel projects has increased the number of rooms available this year by 300 and in 2018 it is estimated there will be a further 100.

The expansion plans of existing hotels and construction of new ones were announced by officials at the Salvadoran Association of Hotels (ASH), which stated that the new rooms will be located "... in three hotels, two new ones and one that will be expanding its capacity".

Jorge Castillo, president of ASH, said that "... this year the aim is to build around 300 rooms' and 'next year another 100 more are expected'. With this venture, an average of "500 rooms" will be provided, which will be located 'in three hotels, two of which are new, and one is expanding its capacity'."

In launching these initiatives, he explained that capital investment is domestic and foreign.  'The law states that there must be national capital to make the investment. There is also foreign investment and brands too," he said. These strategies will allow growth in the near future, securing "investment chains and security in the country'."

Currently the supply of rooms in city, beach and mountain hotels nationwide exceeds 2,000, with 3,000 beds.
