The functions of the Honorary Consul fall in three main categories:

Consular duties: Salvadorian nationals, who find themselves in personal difficulties or have enquiries relating to consular matters, are able to receive direct assistance from the Consul. As such, it is incumbent upon the Consul to come to the rescue of Salvadoran nationals facing problems in Lebanon, including legal assistance, immigration help and medical aid.

Commercial duties: the Consul acts as a link between El Salvador and local institutions and businesses, helping to develop cooperation between commercial and non-commercial organizations.

Representation: the Consul attends all events and public functions as the sole official representative of El Salvador.

Moreover to the best of his ability and within achievable limits, the Consul strives to:

• Protect El Salvador’s interests in Lebanon using his know how, expertise and network of contacts.
• Work with local leaders to keep diplomatic relations open between the two countries.
• Foster friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the two nations through the promotion of tourism, trade and investment.
• Promote El Salvador’s objectives in the economic and political arenas.
• Stimulate the development of relations and facilitate economic, commercial contacts between El Salvador and Lebanese companies.
• Provide information regarding the business environment in El Salvador.
• Offer assistance and consultancy to Salvadorian citizens with specific interests in Lebanon.
• Keep both countries engaged with each other and in constant dialogue about new ideas with a view to helping both countries involved.
• Stimulate dialogue and communication between Lebanon and El Salvador.
• Make regular visits to the Salvadoran UN peacekeepers in Southern Lebanon to give them moral support, listen to their concerns and address these needs where possible.
• Pursue and provide support to organizations, entities or individuals engaged in the staging of festivals and celebrations of cultural awareness that reflect El Salvador’s heritage.
• Stimulate cooperation between Salvadoran and Lebanese academic institutions.
• Perform any other functions as designated by the Government of El Salvador including the provision of diplomatic representation.
