El Salvador: 80 MW Solar Plant Announced
22 Feb 2016The French company Neoen has been awarded the project management and construction of the solar plant to start operations in April 2017, and which is being funded by the IDB.
The French-owned company Neoen won the tender to build and operate a plant for solar power generation, with a capacity of 80 MW, in El Salvador. According to La Prensa Gráfica, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will finance the project with a total outlay of $57.7 million.
"... The photovoltaic power plant will be uploading energy in April 2017 after 11 months of construction and an additional month of testing. In the tender we won with an output of 60 MW, but we added a 20 MW contract that we will sell to a private distributor, " said Emmanuel Pujol, CEO for Neoen Central America to Laprensagrafica.com .
"... The plant will be located in Rosario de La Paz, department of La Paz, in an area measuring 150 blocks, a few kilometers from Monsignor Oscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport, and will have a total of 250,000 solar panels."
